In Cedarfield tradition, the Pastoral Care Team created this compilation of holiday memoirs by team members and residents. We will share one a day through the holidays. Happy Holidays to you and yours!

I remember Christmas was always a really big deal to my mom and dad. OneChristmas my dad and I went into the woods and cut down our very own Christmastree. And every year it was exciting to pull out the vast collection of ornaments– Christmas balls and long strings of lights. I can just picture my dad nowworking on those strings of lights. My mom thought it was really important to decorateand so we did! I still have a lot of the decorations in storage. It’s one of manythings I haven’t had a chance to sort through, but one day I will.

I remember one Christmas my mother and I both had the flu. And my mothertold my dad to put out the toys. My cousin came over, and I was so concerned thathe was going to play with the toys before I got to see them. After all, I had spentenough time with him to know that he would do something like that. And I toldmy mom, “he’s going to play with my toy!” She listened, but ultimately we wereboth too sick to care.

I remember my cousin coming homefrom the College of William andMary at Christmas time and receivingher very first “store-bought” coat. Shewas so overwhelmed, she cried.
